BLOG On the way to San Francisco That was a sharp turn around. Arrived back from Greece - showered, ate, slept and was out the door (early) to go back to Heathrow and zoom to Mesh 2013 in the USA. Not my doing but the slick organisation of "Supercool wife". My head was melting before I went on holiday and now I am ready to rumble again. It is quite amazing how much fun it is to (nearly) unplug for a week and instead stare at the sea and sky. I am still pinching myself about where I am going. Not so much the amazing line up of
BLOG Why I am not quite as sharing economy as I could be.... So we arrive at Heathrow and there is no Piccadilly line. We then scramble for buses, trains, taxi's and push bikes. Amazingly hiring a car is cheaper than a taxi but the hassle at the other end is not worth it. We are now on the train to Ealing. Why did I not leap on one of the 50,000 gazillion sharing economy transport services? We had the same thought while away, I'd love access but don't know where to begin. We would have organised a Zip Car but they have yet to expand to my road, which by t
BLOG Flying with #babybernie I am now convinced that #babybernie is solar powered, so when we get to the sun his energy quota is off the scale. The best thing we do as a family is travel, taking him on a plane, up a mountain, eating new food and meeting new people is a never ending blast of fun. He is twice as exhausting to look after now with his delicious curiosity for every nook and cranny along the way. He also has no sense of fear when it comes to animals, climbing up rock faces or falling over. When #babybernie was
BLOG I just can't book a flight..... I have to come clean about travel. I need someone to book the flight, make sure the passport is together and that we are at the right gate. Maybe it is some undiscovered trait of my dyslexia or maybe I am just not paying attention. When travelling on my own I am paralysed by fear until sat in the seat of the train or plane in motion and no staff member has asked me to move on. I still don't really believe I'll get there until I am on the way home. Eight years ago my dear friend Clare booked the
BLOG You have to have a dog Until you have a solar powered child that chases cats, embraces dogs and has a sceptical relationship with donkeys you are not aware of how many of these creatures per a square metre there are in The Greek Islands. Also you not a real shop keeper if you don't have a dog or cat hanging around the place. There must be a large cage somewhere full of ugly dogs because the street is full of cute and shaggy looking dogs. A well groomed dog cruising the streets would kill the story, just as a well d
BLOG Carlos the dog #babybernie ran into Carlos on the way back from watching the sunset over the ocean. By now #babybernie had his routine worked out, he approached dogs with the confidence required to get a bit of respect. He'd learnt to take command of the situation. Really what was happening here was Carlos was wise to the game, like a horse you take riding but really they take you Carlos knew when to turn and when to stop. #babybernie would be thinking that he was instigating Carlos getting up and walking
BLOG Shopping for tourists I was chatting to a nice man that owned a hotel and he said that high season is hell. All the tourist come then. Of course me and my gang are travellers not tourists. I suggested that I like going on holiday but don't like tourists, even in my home town of London I look at "them" and wonder where they are taking their lead from. I try so hard not to look like one I probably do. In the same way we work hard to avoid becoming our parents suddenly one day bang! It's happened. I am forever lookin
BLOG Two chairs and a motorbike It seems that you just are not playing the game here in Chania if you don't have a small table with two chairs and a motorbike outside your shop or cafe. I was starting to think that maybe everyone has this apparatus because there is a grant from the local government for chair and table buying. "Applicants must provide evidence of back street shop front with a shit motorbike or other two wheeled motorised vehicle. Newly decorated or Ikea - looking shop fronts not not apply." This place is grea
BLOG Getting ready for Sumner When I wake up and walk round this town I am reminded of the line in Kim by Kipling that ends something like "India was awake and Kim was in the middle of it!" The paragraph before describes parrots tooting, doors opening, trains moving and general hustle and bustle. Everyone in Chania is on a mission to get the place finished before the main summer season. Because this year the Greek Orthodox calendar and Roman Catholic calendar Easter at different times there start of the season has been stre
BLOG The little red cup This is what I drink Yerba Matè from (Argentine tea) and this little red one is the latest addition to our collection. It is really important. 1. it is from our friend in Argentina. 2. it arrived on the eve of two life changing weeks for me. 3. It is a new habit. Life changing weeks, part one is coming to Greece and resting, I had to stop, unplug and recharge. So far 2013 is zooming at 100 miles an hour in the right direction, which is great because 2012 sucked. I completely crashed at the en
Audio So tell me ten things about your business.... Why do you do what you do? How did you get into it? Who have you helped best? What are the things to watch out for in your industry? What mistakes do people make when buying your product or service? What else should they look at? What else is there in the marketplace they could consider that is better suited to them? If we got trapped in a lift together you’d be able to tell me at least ten things. Often I meet people who say they can’t write, don't know how to talk, sell, breath or anything el
BLOG #TAGtribe JAM - Content Marketing One - Live Blog 14.28 Wrapping up! Thank you for joining us today here or on twitter (#TAGtribe)! We're leaving in style on ukulele music :-) 14.25 Asked where would they put their money in therms of 2013 content, whether webinars or anything else, Sue suggests making partnership with media owners as they already know their audience, as well as how to tell a story. Ann takes her point of step forward: "Hire journalists!" 14.22 A new point made by Neville on which all our speakers agree: Content isn't new. 14
