The London superswarm team

When I started this project I knew I would not be able to do this type of event by myself and that I would meet / pickup / bump into / be approaced by the best people. And I was right. As this is to be a foursquare community driven activity, I did not want to put in place any marketing, public relations, event management or any other specialised support people who will just see this as a job or task. I wanted people who know foursquare and have already been very vocal about the experience an

Challenge One - What style of event should we pick.

So let's get this clear, I have never organised a meet up or an event,so this is a challenge for me, but I think what we are trying to achieve is possible. While thinking through my strategy about creating a superswarm I came to the conclusion that there are two completely different approaches to the type of event: 1) Are you going to get people to come to a one off place and get your swarm together a little bit like organising a flashmob? 2) Piggy back on an event with a gathering

What got me thinking

I don't really consider myself a geek or anytype of cutting edge guy, but i have enjoyed foursquare from very early on. Back in August 2009, i found myself looking over the apps market at the new stuff coming over from the USA and of course foursquare, gowalla etc. was the buzz. It was 4sqr that caught my eye.  I never really got into the mayor chasing game but did like the idea of seeing where the crowdsourcing data was telling me where people had been or where they are now.  I still envisage i

“Showing up is 80% of how you Community-cate” #llbs

We say showing up is what counts these days, 17 zillion followers online? Great if you are Jay-Z, Barrack Obama (who) or Apple because that is appropriate to their relationship with their fans and customers. Our question is how do you communicate with your community? There is a very strong case to say that we live in an ‘engagement economy’ perhaps you might want to interpret this as ‘engage with someone and they will enter your economy.’ People that show up consistently in times

SME 2.0? Saving London from crap Social Media advice #llbs

SME? What is that mystical category of business that is ‘The SME’? It seems to range from Alan in his attic in Angel to Alan Sugar in his atrium in Canary Wharf.  Here at TAGtribe we have seen SME’s everywhere getting their knickers in a twist with that early 21st Century phenomena called Social Media; finally our souper hero mates Mitchell andSmallwood could tolerate it no more. The Enemy Done with watching people kamikaze themselves on facebook, ply the twitter world with

What we need, want and would like by Daniel Esparraguera

Everyone has a unique experience, their life and the story of it that is delivered in narrative. It is compelling stuff to hear and as people I believe we are attracted to narrative as a means of communication. When we hear a life delivered through narrative the information seems to almost arrive and be received in a different way, it is not just easier to understand, it is clearer as well.  As business people when we hear or see a successful individual communicating the

"Do you know why you want to use Social Media?" #LLBS #TAGtribe

“Do you know why you want to use Social Media?” “I heard it was the next thing!” “Well we say a bit of old with new is what you should do, find the balance!” The panic of getting on social media is a waste of time; many people are running around town shouting things at you like ‘if you are not on social media you will not have a business in 2 years time!’ Before they were social media experts they were Time Share sales experts and live in the world where everything ‘is the

When Bernie chopped his finger off...

(I posted this before a Be2camp event I hosted in July 2010) I had explained it 60 times already by 10 am Tuesday so I thought I would put a quick blog together on the sling and the finger before today’s event.Monday evening I was at a mates place and leant back in my wooden patio chair to declare ‘Oh what a wonderful life!’ and it collapsed on me, that is the chair, not my life. To steady myself I made a grab under the seat and caught the ring finger of my left hand in between the part of the
