Social Measurements, Feedback and Formulas? #TAGtribe

One person cleverly asked Neville Hobson about the social measuring tools that are out there and how important they can be to your business. Did you know that you can be chosen for a job down to your score? What do you think about this? Is it making it less individual and more "fake"? Shelley Fishel noted that we use these tools when we are sold to or told someone is an expert in a certain area. Would you use a social media trainer if their Klout was below 50? The same goes for the openness of

Sitting Comfortably? Let's begin! #TAGtribe

The seats are set, the food is eaten and the beers are opened (and mainly drunk!) and Andy Bargery is introducing our speakers, J.P Rangaswami, Neville Hobson & Jon Silk. Talking about the connected consumer. After confirming we won't sit on our hands, that we promise to get involved and everyone's entered their questions, we are ready to begin. The first question rolls in - When we talk about connected consumer, do we only mean social media, are they relationships? Can you create a better con

Ship it and the power of less.

Two things happened this weekend. One I filled in this "Ship It" book, I found it on a book shelf while cleaning my house. I was also listening to Leo Babauta "the power of less" (which is number two) as I polished away and was amazed at how many things in the book I am very confident I do. Don't me too impressed there are many I still need to get a grip on! I always work with a very clear desk, I strive to only look at email twice a day - indeed I am down to just a few - and we eat well. Too mu

Engaging People Breaking News

My favourite gin swigging mate let slip that they receive over 160 emails a day - how do you manage that? This horror prompted an urgent blog post on how to unsubscribe and manage what you do. The headline is that if you are getting an email every time something happens on a social network you are reversing the advantage of being on a social network. My infamous unsubscribe email had 40 people email back with electric words of encouragement and another 400 unsubscribed. Of course a chunk of th

Don't make a Mes(s)h of the social sharing economy

I am listening to "The Mesh" by @instigating AKA Lisa Gansky, this book has been burning a hole in my audible.com list for more than a year, my mission to fully embrace the sharing economy shot it to the top of the list last week. Lisa references a study that suggests that recommendation by peers is 50 times more likely to influence a buying decision and that word of mouth is more effective than traditional advertising because we are more likely to trust a user close to us than what the company

Why I came back to Blogger

In 2006 I opened a Blogger account, I had know idea what to do, had heard about blogging and spotted a guy called Seth that seemed to be doing ok at it. I posted some thoughts and waited, and waited. Fast forward and the Internet shelves are stacked with blogging platform options, people now have a Wordpress "site" not a blog and little people like me have voice. Along the way I have tried every platform, I always wanted to like blogger but it never seemed to cut the mustard, I was secretly je

Relationship's are the bread of life - how do you make yours?

This blog post was motivated by three key things, Otto Frank talking about his relationship with his daughter, our mate Darren getting married and me reflecting on the nuggets I have learnt from you people in the last few years. We hear about relationships all the time and often in the context of business, networking groups are always banging on about “THE RELATIONSHIP”, I really think that relationships begin at home. Most of my friends who also are ‘in business’ take their home relationship
