Lunch at the Agora Collective Berlin

We got to the Agora Coworking space in Berlin around midday, it was a slow day and the sun was beating down on the backside of the road. I looked at the small archway with a huge gate that made up the entrance, already there was something gooi about this place. The grand collection of bikes inside the gate looked as if a film crew had left in a hurry while making a movie about a 1920′s University. On the right of the gate was a garden with trees that were low enough to hide the rest of the gar

Head melting, saying no and staying alive.

I have just got my breath back, now this. The end of 2012 I had a mental breakdown and felt like I had been in a tied to the underside of a roller coaster at peak time at Disney Land. Being tied to a roller coaster is fine - it is the being in Disney that really horrifies me. I am better now and on a mission of doing less and working to keep my head in the same place as my body. In the last week I have had my most crap few days for ages, it is worth noting that in comparison with most of 2013

Working Out Loud Part 5 - Approach with purpose (Slight return)

The trouble with being a self proclaimed blogger is that you have to blog. I love the idea of blogging, every time I blog something good happens so I am sitting here at 90 Mainyard blogging and / but taking AGES to do it.  I am not MAKING myself write this, I am not doing battle with myself or going through some horrific punishment. This is more of a 'if I give up smoking I won't die' type thing - or 'if I go to the gym I will feel happier, healthier and won't be fat and short of breath.' Bl

Five Start-Ups I LOVE that are Crushing it....

I know there might be bigger, faster, stronger and more hip stuff going on, but for me this is where the fun is. I have seen these guys start, grow, fall over, get back up and - unlike many Start-Up founders - they LISTEN. 1. The Food Assembly - Supported OuishareFest in France and they opened here at 90 Mainyard in the canal side restaurant in our coworking space, they connect food producers with customers and organise a weekly event to pick up your order and meet the people that make your fo

Working out loud part 4

This picture is a sneek look into our Ouishare 'Clean language and Collaboration' workshop with Judy and Neil. What has this got to do with working out loud? Two key take always for me were around feed back and 'why are we here?' I stress and stress about asking for feedback and giving it. Some of the people I love to work with are great at giving invigorating and constructive feedback. For example Andy Bargey and Steve Trister are great at telling you like it is and leaving you ready to p

Why I'm loving Vigo

I am in that place again where I don't want to leave but can't wait to get back. It is amazing to come away and not feel like I am escaping life, I have never understood why people work 50 weeks of the year and then blow a months salary or more on two weeks away. A change of scene on a regular basis works really well for me. Last night I posted that Vigo was my new favourite place. Really I think this is the closest I have ever actually got to Spain. So much of my growing up (well growing up i

So I just had to get a post out!

Sitting at a railway station... Well, I am not actually - it is just the song in my head. I have just about managed to stop feeling that my world will fall apart at the end of the next hour. That feeling left a few weeks ago and I am here in Vigo sitting outside a cafe owned by an Argentine who is happy about the win last night but pissed about the way the team are playing overall. I am not into football but the last time I remember the England team getting anywhere in the World Cup Gazza, L

Top Ten Intern Tips

What do you want Maria to leave with? Tomorrow the @90mainyard crew, #supercoolwife and #babybernie say goodbye to Maria, her next stop is Stockholm to hang with the Bassett Hounds and Jon Buscall to do some grown up work. It has been a joy introducing Maria to people here in London and Liverpool, we were lucky that so many good things like Ouishare Events, Echo Event, Mark Shafer and the Pitch Day for National Business Awards with HRH Duke of York happened in the week she was here! As I weep

Working out loud 4.1

At the end of day "Working out loud day 4" I am in a screaming for an extra few hours.  The last thing I need to do tonight before I sleep is send an email to a specific group of people about my blog course. I have been procrastinating on it for a while, well months. Of course writing this blog has made me sharpen up. I when we are #coworking it is easy to share with people face to face all my productivity and focus woes. They have them too. Writing it down an publishing it rapidly eradicate

Blood and guts. My most open post yet.

Money, money, money. Before I get into this blog it is important you don't read it as the "world's smallest violin" or "poor little Bernie" crap things happen, no one made me do anything and yes it all gets too much at quite a few points. Don't get too excited - it does not end well.  So around the time twitter hit the Internet I rolled into my local small business advice centre to "start a business." The key here is that I had no fucking idea what I wanted to start, no plan, no history

Working out loud 4.1 - Steven Pressfield: Overcoming Resistance Part one.

Ok so now I am a day behind. I am not feeling so Super Hero.  I have like, 10 minutes to writ this post and zoom out the door to get #babybernie. I hardly saw him yesterday and I can't wait to see him! Also what is it with 2 year olds that they HATE getting dressed? The way he screams sometimes makes me feel like a Nazi concentration camp scientist sawing into a live body while calmly taking notes. Yesterdays update did not get posted and now quite conveniently it won't load. (I'll get this l
