What is the relationship between coworking and hospitality?
Because I’ve heard this a lot lately, it was a constant topic of conversation at the Workspace Design Show London.
But when you say coworking and hospitality, it doesn’t mean you’re suddenly running a restaurant, which is how people interpret it.
I worked in hospitality and catering for years.
I loved it.
And I’ve always felt this connection between how we act in a coworking space and a restaurant.
Ian Minor says, “It’s the art of being hospitable” – that is it.
So it is about making people welcome – whatever you are doing.
It’s a bit like saying sorry.
If you’re making people say sorry, it’s not ‘really’ sorry.
If you are ‘making’ people ‘do’ hospitality, they are not ‘really’ doing it.
But when you feel it from inside, and you are all like,
“I am sorry this happened,” and you are clear, unscripted, and heartfelt.
So it’s the intent of how you’re executing the art of hospitality in your coworking space, not you’re just being nice.
