The best thing you can ever do for your coworking space is start an email list as early as possible.
But don’t start an email newsletter because no one wants to sign up for your email newsletter.
Something on your front page that says join our email newsletter either says you want to sell me something or you’ll send me news.
Either way, I’m not quite sure what’s coming my way.
I’ve been emailing people nonstop, probably many of you, for over 15 years, and every email is different.
And I’ve learned loads over that time. You also need to frame your email list for your coworking space as a connection to the community.
The language you use around that will depend on who you are, where you are, and what you’re doing.
A great example is the “Breaker Collective”, founded by Gemma and Caroline.
They’re about to start a coworking space for women and children, so it’s a nursery-led coworking space for women.
Early on, they began to get people together.
Many people are now part of their community, even before the open space.
That’s the other message: build a community before you need it.
Don’t just slap up a website; buy a building and get on with it.
The community members who are the first to enter your building will help shape the values, the environment, and the atmosphere of your future.
So getting people on the email list, getting people to an event and getting them into the building will help shape what your coworking community comes to because you can’t switch on the community when you unlock the door.
