Stability Isn't Boring—It's Quietly Powerful
Finding Stability Amidst the Hustle—Your Quiet Superpower
Landing in London for the Workspace Design Show, I felt that familiar buzz—the rush of reconnecting, leading workshops, and feeling the pulse of a city I'd once called home.
But as my plane touched down, something unexpected hit me: London wasn't home.
I'd become a visitor.
Maybe that's why this particular trip felt so intense.
Or perhaps it was because landing back in Vigo happened days before the anniversary of losing my dad (he passed away on his birthday, March 11, 2019).
Returning home, I felt drained and disconnected.
The excitement quickly fizzled into overwhelm, projects stalled, and my writing slowed to a crawl.
It was precisely the exhaustion I'd warned about when I explained why I left the digital nomad life behind—constant movement disrupts creativity.
Stability, I realized again, isn't dull; it's quietly powerful.
Finding My Mise en Place Again
In professional kitchens, a ritual known as mise en place: every ingredient is meticulously prepared before service, creating calm amidst chaos.
I'd lost sight of my mise en place—those essential daily rituals that ground me.
Instead of passively drifting into meditation, I jump straight into a cold shower, jolting my mind and body awake before meditating with renewed clarity.
I’ve also recommitted to daily walks outside—fresh air, sunlight, resetting my state.
Most crucially, I've resumed writing 750 words each morning—a ritual I'd mistakenly dismissed as a luxury rather than vital fuel for clarity.
Documenting daily wins within those 750 words anchors me.
When I neglected this practice, I felt adrift.
Restarting it pulled me out of chaos into clarity, shifting my mindset from chasing impossible expectations (living in the Gap) to recognizing tangible progress (embracing the Gain).
Remembering to Slow Down to Speed Up
Here's a truth we often conveniently forget:
Speed doesn't always mean progress.
A few weeks back, I waved goodbye to the seductive fantasy of perpetual hustle, of life constantly on the move.
Despite promising productivity, the faster we run, the less genuine progress we make.
Think about it.
How many great ideas come from rushed meetings?
Or those days overflowing with tasks where you skim everything without diving deeply into anything?
Real breakthroughs rarely emerge from chaos.
They appear when you deliberately pause, step back, and breathe.
This intentional slowing isn’t laziness—it’s strategic clarity.
These pauses reconnect you to what truly matters: your community, creativity, and purpose.
These breaks replenish your mental energy and emotional resilience, creating powerful space amidst the noise.
The Japanese concept of "Ma" perfectly describes this—the potent silence between bursts of activity, essential breathing spaces that infuse life and work with meaning.
Coworking spaces, communities, and our productivity flourish not only in action but in these deliberate moments of reflection.
So, reader, what's one intentional pause you can carve out this week?
Maybe it’s stepping outside for ten quiet minutes between meetings.
Perhaps it’s ending your workday early for a reflective walk.
Sometimes, the best way forward is to stop, breathe, and let clarity catch up.
Why Simple Rituals Are Your Best Defense Against Chaos
Stability isn't flashy—it doesn't shout for attention—but it's profoundly impactful, fueling sustained progress.
It’s the steadying force enabling us to navigate inevitable chaos without losing ourselves.
Consistent rituals aren't about complicating life; they're about simplifying it.
They cut through mental clutter, anchoring you to meaningful actions and clarity.
One Small Ritual to Anchor You
Pick one ritual to reclaim this week.
Maybe it’s setting clear daily priorities and documenting wins using something like Hero On A Mission—a straightforward app I've found incredibly valuable.
Or perhaps it’s simply leaving your phone in another room during your morning hours, reclaiming mental space for yourself.
Rituals don't add complexity—they create simplicity.
They clear mental clutter, making room for meaningful action and deep work.
